The New 2017 UK Driving Test

Blackpool Driving Test Centre

You’ve probably heard the rumours about a new driving test that will come into play in April 2017. Well, the rumours are true and although the DVSA haven’t given an exact date for the new driving test changes to commence we can reveal what changes are likely to take place;

Follow Sat Nav Instructions for Approx 20 Minutes

For approximately  20 minutes of the driving test you will be asked to follow directions given to you from a Satellite Navigation System. This is being done to make the test feel more realistic. The sat nav will be provided and the driving  examiner, The examiner will always be ready to step in and direct you verbally due to a possible technical malfunction.

Two New manoeuvres

Instead of performing  a turn in the road (three point turn) or reversing around a corner you will be asked to complete one of two new manoeuvres or parallel parking.

  • Drive forwards into a parking bay in a public car park and then reverse out
  • Pull up on the right of the road, reverse a short distance and then rejoin traffic

Show Me Tell Me Question Asked Whilst Candidate is Driving

You’ll be asked do the show me part of show me/tell me on the move. For example you could be asked to demonstrate how to wash the windscreen or operate the heater while you are driving. This is currently done at the start of the test when the car is stationary.
