Driving lessons could re-start 12th April 2021.
Finally, some great news! A new road map to ease England’s lockdown could see all legal limitations on social contact and workplaces lifted by 21 June.
Shops, hairdressers, gyms, outdoor hospitality and driving lessons and driving tests could reopen on 12 April under plans set out by the Prime Minister.
The DVSA, have recently tweeted;
“In line with the government’s roadmap announcement, driving & theory tests will resume no earlier than 12 April in England. We’ll provide more information about when driving & riding lessons and other test types can resume as soon as we can, but this hasn’t yet been confirmed. We are currently awaiting an announcement from the DVSA in regards to when driving lessons can recommence”
We hope that driving lessons are able to restart a few weeks before driving testing resumes. This way the learner drivers are able to get some driving practice before taking their practical driving test.
What if your driving test is BEFORE April 12th?
If you have a practical, or theory test booked before April 12th then you should anticipate that it will be cancelled, however, please check your emails from the DVSA to confirm this is the case.
If you have a practical that is booked for 12th April or a few days after then we urge you to contact your driving instructor to arrange lessons.
It is important that your standard of driving is up to the DVSA’s standard before taking your driving test.
How long will the wait be for a driving test?
It’s difficult to say at this stage, but we do know that the DVSA have a huge backlog of tests to catch up on.
They have recently launched a national recruitment drive for driving examiners, this is aimed to help clear the backlog of driving tests.
We expect that if you try and book a test in April then a test will likely be available for September/October.
This is just a rough guess – we do hope that tests will be available much sooner. You can check what test dates are available here: https://www.gov.uk/book-driving-test
Do we still have to wear a mask during my driving lessons?
Yes, until we are advised differently. Appropriate sanitation and masks will also be used by our driving instructors to ensure the safety of both parties. We may also carry out temperature checks, ask you to use hand sanitizer and ask you about any symptoms.
Booking driving lessons in Blackpool
At the moment we are not taking any new bookings until the DVSA release a statement confirming an official start date for driving lessons.
We would hate to book you in for lessons, get your hopes up and then have to reschedule your lessons. Those who have booked (pre-lockdown) gift vouchers or already have lessons paid for will have first priority.
New students will of course be welcomed, but please bear with us, every driving school in Blackpool will have the same logistical problem but we at Golden Mile Driving School will do our utmost to get you booked in as soon as possible!
